kTx (Tadalafil) is an inhibitor of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). The sexual stimulation causes the natural production of nitric oxide which releases required quantity of cGMP. PDE5 is present in the corpus cavernosum smooth muscle, vascular & visceral smooth muscle, kidney, lungs & pancreas. Tadalafil maintains the normal level of cGMP by inhibiting PDE5 and produces erection by causing inflow of blood into the penile tissue. Tadalafil has no effect on penile blood flow in the absence of sexual stimulation. The effect of PDE5 inhibition on cGMP concentration in the corpus cavernosum and pulmonary arteries is also observed in the smooth muscle of the prostate, the bladder and their vascular supply.
